Karen A. Gilliand, age 73, of McCook passed away at her home on June 9, 2023. She was born in McCook, NE at St. Catherine’s Hospital on January 4, 1950, to Richard and Luella (Reiners) McConville. Karen attended Red Willow Schools and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1968. Karen attended and graduated from McCook Beauty School. Karen worked several jobs throughout McCook but retired from the Community Hospital as an Environmental Specialist after 12 years.
On December 10, 1971, Karen was united in marriage to C. Roger Gilliand at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola. The couple made their home in McCook. Karen was a member of the St. Patrick’s Altar Society, St. Catherine Catholic Church, and Church Choir. She volunteered at the Bargain Bazaar, helped with Mass at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Karen enjoyed her flowers, water aerobics at the YMCA, crocheting, and playing cards (especially pitch). Her family always loved her baking of bread, cinnamon rolls, and Texas chocolate sheet cake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Luella; parents-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Gilliand; brother-in-law, Ron's wife, Melanie Gilliand; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Gilliand.
Karen is survived by her husband, C. Roger of McCook; daughter, Stephanie and husband, Alex Eboru of Glendale, AZ; two sons, Greg and wife, Julie Gilliand of Omaha, NE and Brett Gilliand of Omaha; four grandchildren: Ashleigh Clarke, Ryan Gilliand, Taylor Gilliand and Cameron Gilliand; two great-grandchildren, Tobias and Ollie; two sisters, Doris (Bill) Wofford of Omaha and Nancy (Dave) Vontz of Omaha; three brothers, Rick (Crinda) McConville of Indianola, Dave (Ondrea) McConville of Indianola, and Mark (Kim) McConville of Indianola; sisters-in-law, Randy (Deb) Stevens of Belpre, OH, Roger (Brenda) Miller of Knoxville, TN, Tony (Kathy) Lucky of Mineral Wells, WV, and Kevin (Sandy) Simmons of Belpre, OH.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel from noon to 7:00 PM. Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Rosary immediately following at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Service is set for Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, at 10:30 AM in McCook with Father Kimminau as celebrant. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in Karen's name to the Community Hospital Hospice of McCook. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
