  John C. McTygue, 58, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at his home in Overton, Nebraska.

He was born on July 15, 1965, in Kearney, Nebraska to James and Barbara (Dickerson) McTygue. He attended public school at Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and graduated with the class of 1984. He then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kearney State College. After college, he returned to Sumner and began working as a carpenter for McTygue Construction. On Saturday evenings, he was a bartender at Tubs Pub in Sumner for over 20 years.

John was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Eddyville. He loved spending his free time watching sports, fantasy football, and hunting. He had a sharp wit and he ran the local cribbage tournaments in Sumner. John enjoyed attending his nieces and nephews sporting events where he kept their stats and could give them their update after the game. He rarely missed their home games. He loved traveling with his friends and family on gambling trips to Deadwood or Las Vegas.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Jim McTygue of Omaha, Mark (Lynda Burman) McTygue of Eddyville, Joe (Alma) McTygue of Kearney, and Matt (Melissa) McTygue of Eddyville; sisters, Mary (Paul) Schipporeit of Sumner, and Anne (Sid) Klingelhoefer of Amherst; nieces and nephews, Abby (Ryan) Brooke, Andy (Audrey) Schipporeit, Stephanie (Marshall) Behrens, Sam Tibbetts, Joey McTygue, Sarah McTygue, Katie (Austin) Wilson, Jacob Klingelhoefer, Kalen Klingelhoefer, Josh Klingelhoefer, and Madison Mills, as well as numerous great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Barbara McTygue. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Father Jose Chavez, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. The casket will be closed.
Interment will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Eddyville, Nebraska. Memorials are kindly suggested to the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery or the Sumner Rescue.
