Clara Chessmore, 78, of Cozad, gained her angel wings peacefully at home on May 19, 2024.

Clara was born on March 29, 1946, to Dorothy Ruth Kuhn and John Franklin Cornine of Sedalia, Missouri where Clara also attended school. After finishing her studies and schooling in Sedalia, Clara engulfed on her own journey in life and started her first job at the Shelter Workshop in Sedalia. A dedicated woman, Clara found she was always ready for the next day at work to joke with her peers and conversate with her many friends. Between coloring, puzzles, and the many activities put on at the workshop- Clara always found ways to stay busy.

Clara met the love of her life, Clifford, in Missouri where they got married December 30th of 1983. While Clara and Clifford may not have had any children, Clara was always surrounded by her loved ones. After moving to Nebraska and settling in, Clara and Clifford embarked on their journey of life together in Cozad, Nebraska. Family-oriented, Clara became a dedicated wife to the man she loved dearly. Clara spent her time bicycling alongside her husband as he would drive his lawnmower to wherever their destination may have been. Clara also enjoyed delivering eggs to her friends. Clara soon noticed that she had made some long-lasting friendships. Even after Clifford’s passing, Clara still found herself encompassed by the love of her family, friends, and friends that had become family.

While at home Clara was surrounded by the love of her housemates and her loved ones that stopped in to check on her and take her on family adventures. She filled her time at home doing the things she loved: catching reruns of her favorite westerns, watching the birds, putting together puzzles, and doing word searches. She also enjoyed her time spent laughing and cracking jokes with her housemates and friends. Clara was a sweet and genuine soul that you don’t get to meet every day. She was selfless and caring beyond measure. Clara impacted each and every person that was blessed enough to cross paths with her.

Clara was greeted with arms wide open upon her arrival to the pearly gates by her husband- Clifford, her parents- Dorothy and John, brothers- Harvey, Thomas, and Donald, sister- Liz, mother and father-in-law, Charles and Cicil, brothers-in-law- Howard and Harold, and sisters-in-law, Mable and Margaret.

Clara leaves behind her siblings Johnny Cornine, Bill Cornine, Harry (Karen) Cornine, Violet (Alan) Logan, and Ronnie (Annette) Cornine, her sister-in-law Wanda Chessmore, her brother-in-law Don Herbert, her many nieces and nephews, and all of her friends and peers at South Central. There are no words to describe how very loved Clara was and how deeply she will be missed.
