Alice Irene Pedersen was born on September 3, 1927 at Mitchell, Nebraska, to parents John Frederick and Hazel Jane (Phillips) Pedersen. She was blessed to have a twin sister, Alta (her lifelong best friend) and a brother Richard (Dick). Alice graduated from Sunflower High School in 1945, and was united in marriage to Delmar Lee Settles on September 22, 1946 at the Federated Church in Mitchell, Nebraska. This love was destined to happen, as Delmar had asked Alice’s twin out on a date, then ended up that same evening with Alice.  That love blossomed with the births of 3 children: Kathryn Ann, Bryan Charles, and Allen Lee. Alice devoted herself to being “Mom” to them during their growing up years.

Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She had a creative nature, and her masterpieces included ceramics, cross-stitch, embroidery, and many, many doilies and afghans.  She made sure that each of her family (including her grandchildren and great grandchildren) has an afghan made especially for them by Grandma.

Alice passed from her earthly life on December 10, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard (Dick) Pedersen, and her husband Delmar.  Left behind to miss her are her children Kathryn (Rich) Kindl, Bryan (Sherry) Settles, and Allen Settles;  grandchildren, Shaun (Rochelle) Settles, Troy (Amber) Settles, Carisa (Neil) Sullivan, Nathan (Michelle) Settles,  and Eric (Sarah) Settles; great grandchildren Gilbert Ullrich, Tanner Settles, Kelsey Wixom, Austin (Kate) Settles, Fredderick Wixom,  Alyssa (Ryan) Choat,  Kyle Settles, Abigail Wixom, Sydney Settles,  Anna Settles,  Ethan Settles, Tala Settles; and great-great grandchildren, Jackson Wixom, Lakelyn Settles, and Emberly Adame.  Also surviving are her sister, Alta, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Pedersen, and many nieces and nephews.
