Wayne L. Carpenter, age 82, formerly of McCook, passed away at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, NE, on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
Wayne Lee Carpenter age 82, of North Platte, NE passed away at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, NE on December 19, 2021.  He was born in rural Red Willow County near Indianola on the family farm on May 18, 1939, to Thomas and Frances (Lohr) Carpenter. He attended Bartley Public Schools graduating in 1957. 
Wayne joined the Army on May 25, 1962, and later served in the National Guard when he was Honorably Discharged.  On April 28, 1963, Wayne wed Roberta Bridgford in Bartley.  To this union one daughter was born, Kimberly Jo in 1975. 
Wayne lived in the McCook area and was employed as a mail carrier, parts manager for Hormel Chevrolet, owner/operator of Western Iron Machine Shop.  In 1990, he moved to North Platte where he worked for Western Engineering Co. and Rodeo Road John Deere which later became Murphy Tractor until he retired at age 64. 
In his younger days, Wayne enjoyed motorsports including driving sprint cars, dragsters, and late model stock cars.  He also loved team roping and calf roping. Wayne’s hobbies later in life included  black powder shooting, hunting and fishing. 
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Frances, brother Roger and sister Elva (Harley) Fesler. 
Wayne is survived by his daughter: Kim Rosenkranz of Lakefield, MN, companion of 30 years Cheryl Bales of North Platte,  sister-in-law Loretta Carpenter of Cambridge NE, niece Dawn LaRae (Stewart) Sikes of York, NE,  nephew Tom (Julie) Carpenter of Bartley, Mark (Pam) Bales of Grand Island, NE,  Mendi Roehrs of North Platte,  4 grandchildren Jonah Bales, Koby Bales, Camerin Burtle, Cayden Roehrs.    
In keeping with Wayne's wishes, the family has chosen cremation. Graveside services will be held at the Bartley Cemetery in Bartley, NE on December 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM with Jim Jones officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the NE National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team. Memorials may be left in Wayne’s name at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel.  Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com.  Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
