The North Platte Police Department will participate in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration “Put the Phone Away or Pay” distracted driving campaign from April 9 th through April 13 th.
Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in any task that takes your focus off the road.
In 2023, 3,275 people were killed nationwide and nearly 325,000 were injured in traffic crashes involving distracted drivers.
The number one distraction is a cell phone. Studies show that drivers who use their phones while operating a vehicle are 240 % more likely to be involved in a crash.
The North Platte Police Department encourages drivers to focus their attention on the road and not on the phone.
