NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A new attraction is arriving at Cody Park just in time for summer as North Platte families are invited to celebrate the debut of the park’s brand-new “Dragon” ride during the 10th Annual Free Ride Night on Friday, May 22.

The community tradition, sponsored by locally owned businesses Premier Rental-Purchase, Mr. Appliance of North Platte and Glass Doctor of North Platte, will once again offer free rides to the public as Cody Park officially opens its amusement season.

This year’s event will feature a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. hosted by the North Platte Area Chamber to officially unveil the new Dragon ride before the rides open to the public at 4 p.m.

Along with free rides throughout the evening, families can enjoy several additional attractions and activities across the park. Dusty Trails will bring its interactive petting zoo, while Jump for Joy will provide bounce houses and free face tattoos for children attending the event.

Organizers say the annual kickoff has become a favorite summer tradition for many local families and an opportunity to celebrate both the community and one of North Platte’s most iconic destinations.

“We’re incredibly proud to help provide an event where families can simply come out, enjoy themselves, and spend time together,” said Chad Fosdick, representing the sponsoring businesses. “Cody Park is one of North Platte’s most iconic destinations, and being able to help kick off the season for the 10th year is something we’re very grateful for.”

Community members are encouraged to arrive early as large crowds are expected for both the free rides and the unveiling of the new Dragon attraction.

The event will take place at Cody Park, located at 1601 N. Jeffers St. in North Platte.
