OMAHA, Neb. – Playing through a constant drizzle and in front of better than 1,100 fans on the inaugural Kids Day at the pitch, Creighton Women’s Soccer fell to Villanova, 2-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 30 inside Morrison Stadium.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 4-4-3 on the season and 0-1-1 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova remained unbeaten and moved to 7-0-3 overall and 2-0-0 in league action.
Creighton fell behind 2-0 in the opening half as the Wildcats scored goals in the 14th and 39th minutes. Villanova took advantage early with a goal in the 14th minute (13:11) off a set piece as Kaydee Amorosa finished off a series of passes from Avrie Nelsen and Morgan Kotch with a right-footed strike from inside the six-yard box to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Villanova’s lead grew to 2-0 just before half when Isabelle Chukwu dribbled around a pair of Bluejay defenders and lasered a shot into the back of the net from 15 yards out for her second goal of the season.
The Wildcats held its 2-0 edge through halftime and into the 82nd minute (81:19) before freshman Radleigh Childers got the Bluejays on the board with the first goal of her Bluejay career. Set in motion by a corner kick from Olivia Duray, Childers tapped in a pass from sophomore Taylor Yablonski in front of goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Villanova created six corners in the match to just two by Creighton, allowing the Wildcats to hold a 12-9 edge in shots.
Creighton return to the pitch on Saturday, October 3rd as the Bluejays hit the road to battled St. John’s in Queens, N.Y. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Red Storm is set for 6 p.m. CT.
