Michael James Heskett, age 59, passed away at the Community Hospital of McCook on May 3, 2022. He was born with Down's Syndrome on October 20, 1962 in McCook to Marvin Raymond and Verna Irene (Hill) Heskett. He was a gift and a blessing to his family and friends.
Michael attended school at the Special Education classrooms on north highway 83 until he was in his mid teens. When his parents retired they traveled with Mike to many scenic areas around the United States. After years of seeing the country, they purchased a condo in Mesa, Arizona spending mid October thru mid April in Arizona and the remaining months in McCook.
Michael enjoyed many TV shows especially The Flintstones and later The Dukes of Hazard and The Incredible Hulk. In Arizona his parents square danced while Michael enjoyed the music and watched the dancing. He made many friends among the square dancers. He loved to go out to eat whether it was Mac's in McCook or Shirley K's in Cambridge or pizza anywhere.
He joined Southwest Area Training Services(SWATS) in McCook in December of 2001. He lived in a group home and participated at the SWATS workshop. He made many friends at SWATS including all the staff.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Verna. He is survived by his brother Harley(Vi) Heskett and their daughters Lynnette(Shawn) Honea with boys Scott and Jack, Cori(James) Thomas and son Caleb all of Emporia, Kansas. He is also survived by his sister Linda(Dean) Witte of Cambridge, NE with their four children: Lori(Tom) Druse and children Gavin and Emily of Lincoln, NE; Deann(Ron) Aufrecht of McCook and their children Jayde Aufrecht(Jeff Beegle) and Madison Aufrecht all of Walla Walla, WA and Brendan, Kaylee and Brogan Hunter all of McCook, NE; Brad(Jess) Witte and children Bennett and Ray of St. Louis, MO; Janet(Donavan) Mitchell and children Brodie, Braxton and Boston of Cambridge, NE.
Cremation was chosen by family and a Memorial service is planned for June 4, 2022, 10:30 AM at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Rev. Tim Burke officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in Michael's name to SWATS.
