Roger L. Brush, 74, of McCook, Nebraska, passed away on January 14, 2022, in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. He was born to Marion and Fern (Halley) Brush on April 28, 1947, near Stockville, Nebraska. Roger graduated from Bartley High School in 1965 and received an Associate’s Degree from McCook Community College in 1967.
On August 20, 1967, Roger married Betty Marie Krieger and they had two children: Tracy and Marcie. They made their home in McCook and were married 53 years before Betty’s passing in December 2020.
Roger was employed by UPS in McCook where he was an overnight feeder driver for 31 years before his retirement in 2002. Not one to sit around, he started volunteering at the Toy Box where he spent the last 15+ years fixing up and repairing used bicycles to be given to children at Christmas in the local area who needed one. He also enjoyed helping the residents at Hillcrest Nursing Home play BINGO once a week for many years. Roger didn’t know a stranger and was always willing to help lend a hand to whoever needed it.
Roger loved spending time with his family. Weekends were spent at the lake camping and boating as their kids were growing up.  He loved making big campfires and teaching people how to water ski….his kids, their friends, nieces, nephews…he taught them all. Many memories were made at the lakes around McCook.
He also loved hunting trips with his son, Cornhusker sports, fishing with friends, gardening, and fixing whatever needed it. He and Betty began spending winters in Mission, Texas, in 2009 and made many great friends over the years. They enjoyed daily happy hours and thoroughly enjoyed their time as “snow birds.”
Roger was a proud member of the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He incurred an injury during the war and received a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Fern Brush, wife Betty, and sister Sharon Tines.
Survivors include his son, Tracy (Robin) Brush of Omaha; daughter, Marcie (Bill) Luhman of Lincoln; grandchildren: Ethan Brush, Evan Brush, and Brianna Luhman; brother, Rodney (Mary) Brush of Ashland; and sister, Beverly Brush of Lincoln.
