Educational Service Unit 16 and local school districts are offering Child Find screenings this fall for children from birth through age five.

The screenings are designed to help identify children who may benefit from additional support with speech and language development, motor skills, social and emotional growth, hearing, learning abilities and other areas of development.

Parents who have questions or concerns about their child’s development are encouraged to contact their local school district to request a screening. The school district will work with ESU 16 to arrange an evaluation at a time and location that is convenient for the family.

Child Find is intended to provide an early opportunity to identify developmental concerns and connect families with appropriate resources and support.

For children ages five through 21 living in Arthur, Grant, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins and Thomas counties, additional support is available through their school district’s Student Assistance Team. The team can provide suggestions for accommodations and modifications and, when appropriate, help facilitate evaluations for personalized assistance.

Parents who believe their child may need additional support are encouraged to contact their local school district to request a referral.

More information is available through local school districts or the ESU 16 office at 308-284-8481.

The release was issued September 21 by Jo Lee, ESU 16 preschool coordinator, and Jennifer Pohlson, ESU 16 director of special services.
