Mickey Alan Brunkhorst was born in Imperial, Nebraska on January 10, 1948 to Ansel and Delpha Brunkhorst. Mickey departed this life on July 26, 2024 at the age of 76. Mickey attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska and graduated high school with the class of 1966. Mickey then attended Parks School of Business in Denver, Colorado. Mickey married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Stute on October 15, 1967. To this union two children were born: Kelly and Kimberly.
Mickey enlisted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.
Mickey and Gwen moved from Colorado back to Wauneta to farm and raise their family. Mickey enjoyed farming and ranching. Mickey was an active member Redeemer Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 304.
Mickey was proceeded in death by his parents, infant brothers, Woodrow and Loren and step-father, Floyd Nordhausen.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years, Gwen; son, Kelly (Carey); daughter, Kimberly (Brandon) Kuykendall; brother, Lynn (Rhonda) Brunkhorst; and step-mother, Sandra Brunkhorst; grandchildren: Seth (Emma) Brunkhorst, Alex Brunkhorst, Christien Kuykendall and Jaelyn Kuykendall; great-grandchildren Elliot and Charlie Brunkhorst and a host of nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen and memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 AM (MT) on Friday morning, August 2, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta with Pastor Keith Wellman officiating. Committal services with full military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
