From the North Platte Police Department
The North Platte Police Department (NPPD) would like to respond to some concerns that were voiced at a press conference held on March 18, 2021, to announce the possibility of a beef plant being built and operated in North Platte.
Several questions were asked concerning what impact a beef plant would have on local crime. While we do not have specific answers to these questions, what we can tell our community is that the NPPD is fully aware that bringing any large company into town has the potential to impact the need for police and fire services.
The Department is going to spend the next 18 – 24 months working to ensure that the NPPD will be prepared for any growth that comes to our city. The NPPD will continue to provide highly professional proactive police services to all people who live, work or visit North Platte.
Over the past several weeks, the Department has begun reaching out to police departments in communities that currently have processing plants to start looking at best practices. We will spend time identifying what other departments and communities implemented that was helpful and what other departments say, in hindsight, they wish they would have done differently to better prepare.
Earlier this week, Chief Hudson met with Sheriff Kramer to begin discussing specific law enforcement strategies and partnerships for the future as it relates to any new large industry that may come to North Platte. Over the past few months, both the police and fire departments have been meeting with City Administrator Kibbon to begin discussing future organizational needs.
The Department wants to ensure that our public knows we plan to be very proactive during the time leading up to any new large business coming to our community. We believe that business growth is vital to our community and are excited to welcome and work with our diverse stakeholders to ensure that the City of North Platte remains a safe place to live work and play.
Daniel Hudson
