A North Platte man was arrested after he was allegedly driving drunk when he was involved in a hit-and-run accident.
According to North Platte police, on February 16, at 11:16 p.m., officers responded to the area of East 9th Street and Walnut Street for a hit and run accident that just occurred.
Police say it was reported that the suspect driver had departed on foot, but was being followed by a witness.
Officers arrived in the area and were directed to the suspect by the witness.
According to police, officers then made contact with 36-year-old Nicholas Witt a few blocks away from the accident scene. Officers say they observed signs of impairment while speaking with Witt.
During the investigation, it was determined that Witt was traveling westbound on East 9th Street when he lost control of his vehicle and struck two parked cars before departing on foot.
Witt was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence- 3rd Offense, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana 1 ounce or less.
Witt was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
