Donald J. Tuma, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home.
Don was born on October 16, 1933, in Grand Island, Nebraska to John and Blanche (Naperstek) Tuma. Don attended public schools in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953. Following high school, Don enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War, until he was honorably discharged on February 16, 1956.
Following his discharge, Don moved back to Lexington where he started working for the Pfeifer and Newman Funeral Home. He then reunited with the love of his life, Bonnie Scott. They were united in marriage on September 14, 1957, in Lexington and later made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union: Don Jr., Cathy and Mike. On June 16, 1958, he embarked on a 15-year career with the Nebraska State Patrol. In 1973, his family moved back to Lexington where Don worked for Big Valley Sales, did construction with Gary Shubert and sons before going out on his own, working as a carpenter, doing construction and working on garage doors.
Don was a hardworking man, who loved being productive, whether it be tinkering around the house or doing chores. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, Cathy (Max) Reynolds of Lexington and Mike (Evelyn) Tuma of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Matthew, Rachel and Jacob, many great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Don Jr., and three brothers, Leonard, Jerome and David.
The family has chosen cremation and there will be no services.
