Robert Dunn, age 89, of New Mexico, passed away on August 10, 2021, at Las Cruses, New Mexico.
Robert was born at Arrowrock, Missouri, on March 31, 1932, to Woodson and Edna Dunn, the oldest of 10 children. In 1940 the Dunn family moved to Omaha where Robert graduated from Irvington High School in 1950. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, shortly after the Korean War started, and began his military career as an aircraft mechanic crew chief on B-29 and B-47 bombers.
Robert served for nearly 25 years until retiring in 1975 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After retiring, he continued working in the same field, but as a civilian employee, until retiring for good in 1994.
While stationed in California, Bob met the love of his life, Lila Crawford. The couple was united in marriage on August 25, 1951, at the Church of God in Glendale, California. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage and two children, David and Cheryl. Because of his military career, the family had lived in California, Washington and South Dakota. He and Lila eventually retired to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to enjoy life in the Southwest.
Bob loved baseball. He was a catcher in his youth, coached his son, David, and was an umpire. His favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. In later years he enjoyed hunting with his son. Bob also loved traveling with Lila around the Southwest and Hawaii and going to the casinos. He was a huge fan of John Wayne and later his Monte Carlo became his pride and joy.
Bob was a kind, loving man who did so much for those around him. He was a doting husband, a wonderful father and loving grandfather who made a point to look after all his girls. He will be forever missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lila, and their son, David; his parents; and siblings, Agnes Sutcliff, Joseph Dunn, Billie Dunn and George Dunn.
Bob leaves behind his daughter, Cheryl Dunn; granddaughters, Rachel Dunn and Shayna and her husband, Russell Mavis; great-granddaughters, Leah and Chloe Dunn and Scarlett and Wyatt Mavis; his siblings, Johnnie and wife, Jayne Dunn, Julius Dunn, Mary Nanfito, Patricia and husband, Robert Shalberg and Nora and husband, James Carlson; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.
