Barbara Foster peacefully passed away at home in North Platte on March 24, 2024, at the age of 70.
Barb was born in Ogallala on March 30, 1953, to James and Nellie Smith. She grew up in Ogallala and Westminster, CO, and graduated from Westminster High School.
Barb was married to Patrick Sands. They had two children, Christina and Michael, and later divorced. Barb then moved back to Nebraska with the kids. They lived in North Platte, then Hastings where she attended college. After graduating from Hastings Community College they returned to North Platte where Barb went to work for the Lincoln County Court House in 1992 and retired from there in 2017.
Barb met Frank Foster and they married on February 5, 1983, and had a son, Gavin. They were together 32 years when Frank died in 2015.
Barb enjoyed camping, traveling, reading books and watching the Denver Broncos. She especially liked being with her family.
Along with her husband, Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Nellie Smith; and brother, Ronald Smith.
She is survived by her children, Christina Nelson (Jeff) and Gavin Foster of North Platte and Michael Sands (Kristen) of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jordan (Forrest), Elizabeth, Mackenzie (Erik), Alex, Michaela, Kash and Kora; great-grandkids, Jeffery, Stella, Deacon, Harper and Ellie; her brothers, Gary Smith (Carrie) of Lincoln and Richard Smith of Omaha; and other family.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. The guest book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
