Flagler College transfer, Aniss Rafiq, posted a 3-0 pre-qualifying singles record over this past weekend to move on to the round of 32 and qualifying draw for singles in the ITA All-American Championships. The ITA tournament held in Tulsa, Okla. features a field of 256 singles players from NCAA Division I collegiate tennis.
Rafiq started his undefeated streak with a three-set win vs. Mikkel Zinder (Davidson) 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. He then took down Ilija Palabestra (Ohio State) in the round of 128 in a two-set sweep, 6-4, 6-2. Rafiq finished out his weekend with another two-set sweep over Marko Mesarovic (Clemson), 6-4, 6-4 to enter the qualifying round of singles play.
The junior will continue singles play on Monday, Sept. 20th as he takes on UCLA's Andy Nguyen.
