Tuesday is expected to bring near-record high temperatures to the region, the National Weather Service in North Platte said.
Tuesday forecasted high is 85 in North Platte, increasing to the upper-80s on Wednesday.
The spike in the mercury will be accompanied by strong south winds, which has led to a red flag warning being put into effect from noon to 9 a.m. Tuesday. South winds will be sustained at 15 to 25 mph, gusting up to 40 mph.
The next chance of precipitation in the long-term forecast is a chance of showers Thursday evening.
