Barbara Ruth Sherlock (1936-2020)

Barbara Ruth Sherlock, age 84, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died  November 5, 2020 at Gothenburg Health.  

Barbara Ruth was born on October 3, 1936, in Farnam, NE. She was the middle child of Elma and Clifford Nickerson. Barb attended Farnam Public School, graduating with the class of 1954. She attended Kearney State College and received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economic Education in 1957. Barb began her teaching career in Franklin, Nebraska. She taught in schools in Kansas, Colorado, and finished her teaching career in Brady, Nebraska. Barb was a life-long educator, retiring in 1998. She still continued to substitute for several years in Brady and Maxwell, Nebraska.

Barbara married Philip Sherlock on August 20, 1966, in West Minster, CO. Barb and Phil lived in Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska eventually settling in Farnam. After Phil’s death, Barb moved to Gothenburg. Barbara enjoyed spending time with friends and family especially her nieces and nephews. She loved doing crafts, sewing, and always enjoyed a good book. She enjoyed lunches with friends old and new at the Senior Center.

Barb was preceded in death by: parents, Clifford and Elma Nickerson; husband, Philip Sherlock; brother, Clifford "Nick" Nickerson; and sister-in-law, Pearl Nickerson; sister Madeline "Madie" Widick; nephews, Brad Nickerson and Clinton Nickerson. 

Survivors include nieces: Priscilla Meester of Lexington, Nebraska; Amanda (Brian) Woolley of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; Kelsey G'Schwind of  Kearney, Nebraska; Karmen Widicka and Linda Moody of Ceresco, Nebraska, Kim (Todd) Rosenthal of Lincoln, Nebraska, Andrea Nickerson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Brittany Nickerson Myles of Apollo Beach, Florida;  nephews: Gregg Widick and Tom Eckery of Lincoln, Nebraska, Charles Rosenthal of Omaha, Nebraska, Nick Rosenthal of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law: Ralph Widick of Farnam, Nebraska; along with many friends and former students.

Private inurnment will be held in the Farnam Cemetery, next to her parents.
