Andrew Michael Burrell, age 31 of McCook, passed away unexpectedly at his home in McCook on June 28, 2020.  He was born to Andrew Gene and Sherri Lynn (King) Burrell on February 16, 1989 in Overland Park, Kansas.  Andrew moved to McCook, Nebraska at a young age and attended St. Patrick School in McCook from kindergarten to the eighth grade, where he also served as an altar boy.  He went on to graduate from McCook High School with the class of 2007.

Andrew married Jayleen Gomez in August of 2011 and the couple had a daughter, Janaya.  Andrew and Jayleen later divorced but always remained close friends.  At a young age Andrew was diagnosed with Scheuermann’s Kyphosis, an excessive curvature of the spine which caused much pain and a limiting corrective surgery.  Even with his ongoing medical issues, Andrew was a hard worker; at just ten years old he started working a paper route for the McCook Gazette.  He also worked as at Taco John’s, the Coppermill, Kinkader Brewery in Broken Bow and as a butcher at Schmick’s Market.

When not working, Andrew loved to be outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing and a drive on a dirt road.  He enjoyed collectables and was happy when cooking for his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Janaya Victoria; parents: Sherri and Steve Rothmeyer of McCook and Andy and Debbie Burrell of Des Moines, Iowa; grandparents: Norman King of Des Moines, Iowa and Jeff and Judy Kroblin of Tonganoxi, Kansas; sister, Sarah (Jeremiah) Smith of Madrid, Iowa; brother, Joseph Rothmeyer of McCook; nephew, Jordan Smith of Madrid, Iowa and godparents, Robert and Marjorie Grimm of McCook.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Sunday evening, July 5, 2020 at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday morning, July 6, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church of McCook with Father Bernard Lorenz celebrating.  No viewing or visitation; cremation was chosen.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.  A memorial has been established in Andrew’s name for future designation.  Friends may leave words of comfort at herrmannfh.com.  Herrmann – Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
