Roger Voss, age 78, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died February 19, 2022, in Lincoln.
Roger was born to Harold and Marjorie Voss in North Platte. He grew up on the family farm and developed a love for the land and the life it entailed. That love for the Sandhills continually brought him back to his original home.
Roger attended Lincoln Co. District 79 Meadowlawn School then North Platte High School, from which he graduated. While in high school, he was an honor student, played in the band, participated in sports, and was a member of Key Club and National Honor Society. Roger then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he received his B.S. Degree in Animal Science, his M.S. Degree in Ruminant Nutrition, and was a life member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association.
Roger entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and was commissioned an Infantry Officer. He served in Vietnam with USMACV as Commander of an advisory unit as well as in a staff position. Roger left the Army after four years of active duty with the rank of Captain.
On June 2, 1973, Roger was united in marriage to Twila Larsen in North Platte. The couple lived in different communities until settling in Lincoln in 1988.
Roger had a long career in agricultural sales, working for small companies as well as large multinational companies. During his career he was a member of the American Society of Animal Science, Nebraska and National Cattlemen, and Nebraska Corn Growers, and a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA). Roger spent three years in China designing and supervising the construction of a modern feedlot and traveled extensively throughout the country, advising government functionaries and private operators on cattle management and nutrition and alfalfa management. He gave alfalfa seminars in China as well as several states in the U.S.
Roger was a history buff and twice elected Sheriff of Buffalo Bill Corral of Westerners in North Platte (a national group dedicated to preserving history) and was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans as his great-grandfather was a wounded Veteran of the 19th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment (19th OVI).
Roger was also a longtime member of American Legion Post #169 and a lifelong Lutheran. He was baptized and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte and was a member of Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
