Sharon L. Tipton, 80, of North Platte, NE passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Great Plains Health Hospital.
Sharon was born on September 27, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA. the first of two daughters born to Leland “Lee” and Marie (Wood) Bruckner. The family moved back to Shebly, NE upon Lee’s discharge from the military.
In 1961, Sharon married John A. Haley and together they were blessed with 4 children. After 18 years of marriage they divorced, and in 1981 she married the love of her life Gerald “Jerry” E. Tipton, Sr. They had been happily married for 36 years upon his death in 2017. Sharon worked for Torin Products in Columbus, NE before moving to Plainview, NE where she and her husband owned and operated Plainview Bowling Alley and Corner Café. The family eventually moved back to Columbus where she worked for Vishay Dale Electronics until her retirement in 2007. Following retirement, the family moved to North Platte to be closer to family, and she worked at Wal-Mart as a cashier until 2021. She then joined her daughter, Elizabeth and grandson, Cody and worked as a receptionist for their small family business, Afterhours Repair, LLC.
Sharon enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Columbus Bowlers Hall of Fame. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards, as well as camping. She also enjoyed her favorite vacation spot Estes Park, CO. She was a proud grandma and great grandma, who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Sharon’s memory are her daughters, Elizabeth (Steve) Cahill of North Platte, and Gina Olson of Iowa; son, Brian (Cindy) Haley of Swanton, Ohio; dear sister and brother in law, Annette and Larry Bomberger of Columbus; grandchildren, Nicole, Justin, and Andy Paulson, Jarrad (Kirsten) Nickolite, Adam Nickolite, Kenneth and Elizabeth Olson, Amanda (Nick) McGuire, Cody (Bethany) Cahill, Alexander, Jacob, and Katie Cahill; great-grandchildren, Jordan Wilkens, Patrick and Benjamin Nickolite, Kiersten and Dillon McGuire, Kyla, Hadley, and Braelyn Cahill; step brothers and sisters, Bob (Eleanor) Wilde, Karen (Scott) Godden, Ranae (Jim) Murphy, Peggy King, and Brett Wilde; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmom, Laurel Bruckner; 1st husband John; 2nd husband Jerry; infant son, Timothy; and granddaughter Brandy Jo Wilkens.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Anne Durboraw officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. where she will be laid to rest next to the love of her life, Jerry, in Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11th , with the family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
