Anita F. Fagot, 95, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Brookestone Gardens in Kearney.
Anita was born on June 19, 1928, at Eustis, Nebraska to Ludwig and Anna (Thumm) Rieker. She received her education from Eustis Public Schools and graduated from Eustis High School with the class of 1946. Anita taught in a rural school near Lexington immediately after graduating from high school. In 1948, she taught at District 52 and District 16 N.
She was united in marriage to Paul Fagot on August 3, 1948 in Lexington at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Five children were blessed to this union: Mark, Theresa, John, Dave and Alan “Buck”. The family lived on a farm north of Lexington until they moved into town in 1952. Anita focused her efforts on caring for the home and raising her children. She worked side-by-side with Paul as the owner and bookkeeper for Fagot Cartage and Storage from 1952 until 1977. She then went on to be the secretary at St. Ann’s Catholic School from 1977 until they closed in 1988. Before retiring, Anita worked for The Credit Union for a few years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Paul and Anita lived at Johnson Lake for about ten years before moving back to Lexington. Paul preceded her in death in 1996. Anita moved to Kearney in 2022 when her health started to decline.
Anita was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she was involved through the church circles and was the church organist for over fifty years.
In her younger years, Anita and Paul attended many dance clubs and always looked forward to the Halloween parties. She also enjoyed playing cards and travelling with her sidekicks. Anita loved sports and was a diehard Nebraska Husker and Kansas City Royals fan.
Survivors include her children, Mark (Eunice) Fagot of Lexington, Theresa Puls of Holdrege, John Fagot of Lexington and Dave (Mag) Fagot of Johnson Lake; daughter-in-law, Becky Fagot of Elwood; nine grandchildren, Jake (Kasi) Fagot of Lexington, Mitch (Jessica) Fagot of Lexington, Sean (Becky) Puls of Kearney, Ryan (Julie) Puls of Holdrege, Julie (Alden) Weaver of Orange County, California, Jason (Tonya) Fagot of Lexington, Jeff Block (Kylee Hoffmaster) of Lexington, Lacie (Zach) Frazho of Elwood, and Anna Johnson of York; twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Raymond Rieker of Eustis.
Besides her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her son, Alan “Buck”; grandson, J.D. Puls; daughter-in-law, Marge Fagot; son-in-law, Terry Puls; sister, Mildred Stagemeyer and sister-in-law, Virginia Rieker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jose Chavez, officiating. The Mass will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Interment will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Lexington.
