Clarence Jankovits (1938-2023)

   Clarence Joseph Jankovits Jr. was born on September 7, 1938 at home in Hitchcock County, Nebraska to Clarence and Frances (Versch) Jankovits.  He attended school in Herndon, Kansas and graduated with the Herndon High School Class of 1956.

    Clarence was united in marriage to Kay Fassler on November 14, 1959 in Herndon.  They first lived south of Culbertson and in 1966 made their final move to the family farm east of Culbertson where they raised their three children.  Clarence was a lifelong farmer and his love of the land led to serving as a board member of Farmers Coop and as a director of the Frenchman Valley Irrigation District for 19 years.

    Clarence served Culbertson as a member of the schoolboard.  Clarence and Kay attended St. Patrick Catholic Church of McCook where Clarence was active in the Knights of Columbus.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and working on puzzles.

    Clarence passed away Monday evening, November 13, 2023, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in Wauneta, Nebraska.  He was 85 years of age.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Clarence is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kay Jankovits of the farm east of Culbertson; sons, Daniel (LeAnn) Jankovits of Culbertson and James (Jill) Jankovits of Crawford, Nebraska; daughter, Janet (Jankovits) Kincaid of Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren: Michelle (Cody) Levinson of Omaha, Nebraska, Jessica Jankovits of McCook, Cody (Lauren) Jankovits of Omaha, Nebraska, Erica (Spencer) Ricci of Eaton, Colorado, Logan Jankovits of Cambridge, Nebraska, and Allison (Levi) Allen of Hot Springs, South Dakota; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Connor and Jordyn Levinson, Penelope, Nolan, and Dallin Ricci, and Kaladin, Lochlan, and Ashton Allen; and brothers, Robert (Kris) Jankovits of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Gery (Roxie) Jankovits of Rochester Hills, Michigan.

    Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 10AM-7PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, the family will be present to greet friends from 5-7PM.  Recitation of the Rosary will follow the visitation, beginning at 7PM.

    Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10AM on Friday morning, November 17, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook with Father Bernard Kimminau celebrating.  Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
