NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (July 28, 2025) — More than 100 junior golfers from across Nebraska teed off Monday at Lake Maloney Golf Course for the first round of the annual North Platte Ambassadors Junior Golf Tournament, launching two days of youth golf competition that highlight fun, friendship, and skill development.
The tournament, organized by the North Platte Ambassadors, draws boys and girls ages 7 to 18 and is known for blending competition with community. Players were grouped by age divisions and played either nine or 18 holes depending on their flight. Round 2 is set for Tuesday at Rivers Edge Golf Club, followed by an afternoon trophy presentation.
The first-day leaderboard featured several standout performances. In the Boys 10–11 division, Henry Amen delivered the round of the day, carding a 3-under-par score to take a commanding lead. Meanwhile, Hadley Amen leads the Girls 11–12 division at 4-over, narrowly ahead of Myla Pana.
The Boys 7–9 division is led by Cooper Rippen at 6-over, while Ben Werner (+4) and Reid Loop (+2) lead the competitive 14–15 and 16–18 divisions, respectively. On the girls’ side, Allie Jones topped the 16–18 group with a 10-over score, while Micajah Long leads the Girls 14–15 division by one stroke.
Committee co-chair Ty Lucas said the Junior Ambassador Classic is about more than scores and trophies. “The goal is to help those who are new to competitive golf develop courage and confidence, in addition to meeting others with similar interests,” he said.
Beyond competition, players also had the chance to participate in a free instructional clinic on Sunday, and many returned Monday night for the ever-popular Junior Slugfest — a team scramble competition featuring “sudden death” playoffs under the lights.
Play resumes Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Rivers Edge, with final results and trophies awarded from 1 to 3 p.m. Thanks to the support of more than 25 local sponsors, the tournament remains an affordable and rewarding experience for young golfers.
