Melvin Chestnutt (1929-2021)

     Melvin Chestnutt, age 92, of Ogallala, Nebraska passed away on May 24, 2021 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Nebraska.  He was born on March 9, 1929 to Rueben A. and Mary A. (Mitchell) Chestnutt at Glade, Kansas.  He attended schools in Phillips County, Kansas, graduating from Phillipsburg High School in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
     Melvin enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in the Infantry School Detachment.  
     On January 8, 1954 he married Marian Forell.  To this union six children were born:  Yvonne (Cindy), Rocklynn, Tamara, Eldon, Steve and Brenda.  
     Melvin worked on several ranches in the Nebraska Sandhills prior to moving to Ogallala, Nebraska.  After moving to Ogallala, he worked for the Phillips 66 Pony Express Station, Armour Sand & Gravel, and as a custodian at the Ogallala Auditorium, retiring in 1994.
     Melvin is survived by four daughters, Yvonne L. Long (Mark) of Martinsville, Illinois, Rocklynn E. Chappell of El Campo, Texas, Tamara K. Haggard (Michael) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Brenda L. McGinty (Mike); one son, Eldon (Jane) Chestnutt of Emerson, Nebraska; also ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; one son, Steve; his parents; his brothers, Ivan, William, Bernard, and Jesiah; his sisters, Zelda Lindsey, Irma Chestnutt, and Lois Mowman; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra.
     Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. (MT) at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, Nebraska with Rev. Chuck Rager of the United Methodist Church officiating.
     Interment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery, Ogallala, Nebraska with Graveside Military Honors by the Keith County Veterans Honor Guard.
