The City of North Platte is warning residents and local businesses about an active scam involving fraudulent text messages impersonating Municipal Light & Water.
According to city officials, the messages claim to be from a “Municipal Light & Water disconnection team,” falsely stating that utility service is scheduled for disconnection the same day. The texts instruct recipients to call a provided phone number and reference a case number.
City officials emphasize that Municipal Light & Water does not contact customers by text message and will never demand payment over the phone.
Anyone who receives one of these messages is advised not to respond, not to call the number listed, and not to provide any personal or payment information.
