NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Those of us that grew up in North Platte without a doubt remember Lt. Rick Ryan of the North Platte Police Department. He was just one of those police officers you knew and remember.
Ryan passed away Tuesday in North Platte.
Ryan served and protected the city's citizens for 38 years, joining the force in 1971. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and the recipient of a Purple Heart during his service in Vietnam.
Ryan will be missed by many family and friends, as well as the community he served.
The North Platte Police Department issued the following statement.
"We are saddened by the loss of Rick Ryan, who passed away earlier this week. Rick joined the North Platte Police Department in 1971, where he worked for 38 years, before retiring in 2009. Rick retired with the rank of Lieutenant and touched many lives throughout his career and life. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rick's family during this difficult time."
