Stanley Harold Spomer, age 80, of McCook, NE passed away, surrounded by his family, on November 10, 2023 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.
Stan was born on January 31, 1943, in Lincoln, NE to Victor Harold and Pauline Dorothy (Horn) Spomer. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast in 1960 and continued his education at Kearney State College, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Music Education in 1964. He received his Master’s in Music Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1971.
On August 24, 1963, he was united in marriage to Judith Jane Price in Kearney. They moved to Sargent in 1964 where Stan was a music educator. In 1966 they moved to Neligh where Stan taught high school music. While living in Neligh, their two daughters, Trisha and Tracy, were born. In 1970, they relocated to McCook where Stan taught instrumental music in the McCook Public High School. In 1973, under his direction, the MHS band represented the state of Nebraska in the presidential inauguration parade in Washington DC. In 1976, Stan took the band to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona. Later he transitioned to teach band at McCook Jr. High.
After leaving the McCook Public School System, he became an insurance agent and began the Town and Country Insurance Agency. He then worked for Marsh Insurance Agency and spent his final years prior to retirement at AmFirst Insurance Services. While working for AmFirst Insurance, he taught instrumental music lessons at rural schools, then became the high school band director at Beaver Valley Schools, and finally St. Patrick’s Elementary School until his retirement in May of 2007. Other ventures throughout his career include ownership of J&S Liquor Store and roofing houses.
Stan’s hobbies included spending time at the lake, playing his trumpet, golfing, woodworking, traveling and following Husker football. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Victor and Pauline Spomer and stepfather, Benjamin Deines.
Survivors include his wife Judy Spomer of McCook; two daughters Trisha Jane and husband Patrick Kind of Fort Collins, CO, and Tracy Marie and husband John Falconer of Kearney; five grandchildren including Spencer (Tabby) Kind of Sterling, CO, Tyler (special friend Anna Goodwin) of Loveland, CO, Carter Kind of Ft. Collins, CO, Lauren Falconer of Lincoln, NE and Megan Falconer of Omaha, NE; two great grandchildren, Bella Kind of Ft. Collins CO, and Parker Kind of Sterling CO; numerous relatives and a host of friends.
