LINCOLN, Neb. (September 8, 2020) - Applications are now being accepted for Nebraska Tourism’s 2021 Passport program. Any Nebraska destination is welcome to apply to become a Passport stop. Past stops have included museums, restaurants, outdoor adventures, retail stores, wineries, breweries, etc.

“Every year I’m amazed by the growth of this program, and this year is no exception. The 2020 Passport got off to a late start due to COVID-19, but so many Nebraskans are choosing to travel in-state. The Passport Program has been great in helping people venture out safely and decide where to go,” said John Ricks, Nebraska Tourism Commission executive director. “There are a lot of benefits in being a Passport stop including increased business and free marketing opportunities, I highly recommend any Nebraska tourism-related businesses apply to be a 2021 stop.”

As of September 8, 286 participants have finished all 70 stops in the 2020 program, over 41,000 Nebraska Passport booklets have been requested and 10,142 accounts on the app have been created. The 2020 program ends on October 31.

The Nebraska Passport program benefits travelers through helping them create life-long memories, but the program also greatly benefits the 70 chosen Passport stops through increased traffic, sales and awareness.

Some of the requirements for Nebraska Passport stops are:

  1. Offer an exceptional, unique visitor experience.
  2. Be open regular, reasonable, consistent hours (including at least one weekend day) during the Nebraska Passport season (May 1 to September 30).
  3. Keep the same hours of operation throughout the Passport season.
  4. Display excellent customer service.
  5. Be a good tourism ambassador for your region. Talk to travelers about other tourism destinations, restaurants, retail stores, etc. in your area that they may be interested in visiting.
