North Platte council to weigh airport levy, highway project Tuesday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (Aug. 18, 2025) — The North Platte City Council will meet Tuesday evening to consider a range of items, including a levy allocation for the airport authority, agreements with Lincoln County, and a highway improvement project.

On the consent agenda, council members are expected to approve a special designated license for Las Mananitas’ annual festival at the D&N Event Center on Sept. 13, along with renewals of interlocal agreements with Lincoln County for network services and emergency management. The council will also consider continuing independent contractor services for operation of the city’s government access cable channel.

The regular agenda includes a vote on the North Platte Airport Authority’s 2025-26 preliminary levy allocation resolution. Council members will also decide on a request for a one-time fireworks display downtown during the North Platte High School homecoming parade on Sept. 10.

A major item before the council is a resolution and agreements tied to a Nebraska Department of Transportation project to improve U.S. Highway 83 (Dewey Street) between Leota Street and First Street. The council will also take up the first reading of an ordinance to create Street Improvement District No. 365 as part of the same project.

In other business, council members will hear the second reading of an ordinance creating Sanitary Sewer Connection District No. 23, covering an 8-inch PVC sewer line east of Buffalo Bill Avenue. They will also vote on authorizing payments of more than $218,000 to Van Kirk Bros. Contracting and Level, LLC, along with other city claims.
