Arthur “Art” P. Soncksen, age 90, of Hayes Center, NE passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

Art was born February 15, 1934 in Hayes County, NE to parents Peter F. and Anna T. (Miller) Soncksen.  He was one of three siblings and attended school in Hayes Center, graduating from high school with the Class of 1952.

Art enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. He proudly served his country until being Honorably Discharged in 1957. Following his years of service, Art began a lifelong career in agriculture.

On June 14, 1953, Art married the love of his life, Elaine M. (Luhn) Soncksen in McCook. The couple was blessed with three children: Beverly, Michael and Bradley.  Art and Elaine recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Art was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Farming, family and faith were of the utmost importance to him. Art was an initial member of the Hayes County Zoning Board, a member of the American Legion, the Hayes Center VFW and the NRA.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elaine Soncksen in 2023; daughter, Beverly Soncksen; and a sister, Mary Ann (Laryl) Richards.

Those left to celebrate his life include his sons, Mike (Lynn) Soncksen of McCook, NE and Brad (Patti) Soncksen of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Christopher (Alicia) Soncksen and daughter, Kinley, of Lincoln, NE, Peter Soncksen of McCook, NE, Erik Soncksen of Lincoln, NE , Joseph Soncksen and fiancée, Rylie Egle, of Hayes Center, NE and Abigail Soncksen of Johnson City, TN; sister, Kathy (Harold) Howell of Hastings, NE as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hayes County Volunteer Fire Department, 500 Tate Ave, Hayes Center, NE 69032

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held from 5 to 7pm on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating.  Services will be livestreamed through the YouTube Channel, Peace Lutheran Church McCook or the church’s Facebook page, Peace Lutheran Church NE.

Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery, Culbertson.
