North Platte Area Habitat for Humanity and Rape and Domestic Abuse face off once again in a friendly fund-raising competition benefitting the two North Platte nonprofit organizations on Thursday, May 13th.
The event, loosely based on the Paramount Network television show Lip Sync Battle, hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen, will feature some of North Platte’s most colorful and entertaining lip syncer’s battling it out for the coveted Lip Sync Battle Belt.
“We had no idea how well this fundraising idea would go over last year when Jenny Bonta, the Executive Director for RDAP and I decided to join forces on this competition” said Dalene Skates, Executive Director for NPAHFH. But the community really rallied around the event and it completely exceeded all our expectations right out of the gate”
The success of last year’s event led to a few changes for the 2021 competition.
“We’ve added more contestants, four for each organization, plus we moved to the playhouse this year to allow for a larger audience. The audience is the judge, determining the winner by their participation,” said Bonta.
Returning as Master of Ceremonies is Lewys Carlini and Sonie Kuhlman as the Colorful Commentator. Derek Beck will be handling the music selected by the contestants for their performances and, one of RDAP’s contestants from last year, Dillon Johnson, has returned as the event coordinator.
Tickets are $25 ahead of the event and are available now at the Habitat office at 420 N Cottonwood Street or the RDAP office at 316 East Front Street. Show team support by also purchasing a Team Habitat or Team RDAP t-shirt to wear to the show. T-shirts can be bundled with a ticket for $40. Tickets at the event will be $30 and shirts $20. Masks will be required.
Funds raised from this event will stay local to benefit these two organizations.
