Mark Richard Pope, 65, of North Platte Nebraska passed away October 29, 2021.  He was born May 30th, 1956 to Dorsey and Patty Pope of Council Bluffs, Iowa. 
Mark grew up in Council Bluffs where he attended school in Underwood and graduated with the class of 1975.  A few months later, he enlisted with the Navy and served our country four years.  He enjoyed traveling to different ports and experiencing the different culture.  After leaving the Navy he joined the Army Reserves in 1983 where he met and later married Pamela Porter.  They were blessed with 4 children, Michelle, Christopher, Colbey, and Tara.  The couple lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa before making their home in North Platte, Nebraska.  Mark was a conductor for the Union Pacific railroad up until his retirement in 2020.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed taking his grandsons fishing and spending time with his family.
Mark is preceded in death by his mother Patty Pope, his maternal grandparents, his paternal grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
Mark is survived by his wife of 34 years Pamela Pope, North Platte; father, Dorsey "Dean" Pope, Council Bluffs, Iowa; children Michelle Linzy, Colbey (Glen) Barber, Christopher Pope and Tara Giles; his grandsons Kale, Weston Barber, Carsyn Pope, Matthew & Jethro Giles; brother, Timothy (Traci) Pope, Council Bluffs, Iowa; and sister, Teri (Aaron) Vorthmann, Henderson, Iowa.  Along with many other family and friends.
Per Mark’s request memorials are suggested to Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 3, 2021, 10am -1pm at Adam & Swanson Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be Thursday, November 4, 2021, 2:00 p.m., Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska, with full military honors.   Dinner to follow at American Legion at 2020 East 4th St, North Platte, NE.
