By Jay Omar, Communications and Public Policy Director for the Nebraska Department of Transportation
With severe weather and wildfires impacting areas of Nebraska, we are reminding travelers to check Nebraska 511 before heading out. Nebraska 511 provides real-time information on road conditions, closures, construction, traffic cameras, and other travel impacts across the state. It can be accessed at 511.nebraska.gov or downloaded from the Apple app store or Google Play.
For areas affected by flooding and wildfires, travelers can use Nebraska 511 to check for road closures and find alternate routes before beginning their trip. We also encourage drivers to use the app's "Tell Me" feature, which provides hands-free voice notifications about traffic incidents, road conditions, closures, and other travel impacts along their route.
In addition, we want to remind drivers to slow down and move over for vehicles, first responders, and crews working along the side of the roadway. Drivers should also buckle up, put their phones down, and remain focused on driving to help keep themselves and others safe.
