James M. “Mike” Johnston, 69, of North Platte passed away January 31, 2022 at his home in North Platte.  Mike was born September 13, 1952 to James Albert and Mary Lou (White) Johnston in North Platte. 
Mike moved with his military family all over the country.  He graduated from Sutherland High School with the class of 1971.  He entered the U.S. Army in 1972 and served in Hawaii.  After his discharge, he returned to Sutherland and then worked for Monroe Auto in Cozad for several years. Mike moved to North Platte and worked with his father in their honey business.  He also worked for Pony Express as a courier, later working for the City of North Platte.  Mike enjoyed movies and was devoted to taking care of his parents.

Mike is survived by his brother Pat (Bobbie) Johnston, North Platte; two nephews, Ryan (Emily) Johnston, Worland, Wyoming and Travis (Michelle) Johnston, Hutto, Texas and nine great-nieces and nephews; along with numerous other family members and friends. 
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Lou; two sisters, Cheryl and Barbara.

A memorial has been established in his name. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, with Bishop Jesse Dunn officiating.  Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.  Book signing will be 9 – 5, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
