Robert "Rocky" Barrett, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away at home in Lincoln on March 5, 2024, at age 73 surrounded by family after a battle with cancer.

Rocky, the son of Robert and Bennitta Barrett, was born May 4, 1950, in North Platte where he grew up.  He graduated from NPHS in 1969 and proudly worked as a baker for his parents, who owned Krispy Krust Bakery.

Growing up, Rocky built and raced go-carts with his father and won quite a few trophies. They also shared a passion for stock car racing and NASCAR. His profound love for music started at an early age as he tagged along with his father's and uncle's western country music band, The Hadley Barrett Band.

In 1969, Rocky married Jean Hansen.  The couple lived in North Platte and Denver, moving at times between both places.  After they divorced, Rocky moved to Lincoln City, OR, and worked as the Head of Security for the Inn at Spanish Head for nearly 25 years.  He eventually retired and returned to Nebraska to be closer to family; he settled in Lincoln in 2018, just .8 of a mile from his daughter.

Rocky loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandkids, which included many hours around his parent's pool, or having family out to visit on the beautiful Oregon Coast, and ziplining with his granddaughter at age 73 – he was very proud of that!  He also loved spending time with his granddog, Marzen.

Elvis Presley was also a big part of Rocky's life. It only took a few minutes of meeting him to recognize his slightly obsessive love for Elvis. Rocky could weave Elvis into any story. There were many trips to Graceland with family and friends as well. He was also a creative soul, always making up games for his young kids along with Elvis board games and stationery.

From his nephew Monte Wilson, "He lived on his own terms, embracing each moment with joy and enthusiasm, leaving behind a treasure trove of fond memories that will forever be cherished. Rocky was a devoted father to his three wonderful daughters, whom he adored beyond measure. As I bid farewell to Rocky, may his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory bring comfort to all those whose lives he touched."

He leaves behind his daughters, Devan Roybal (Rudy) of Arvada, CO, Jennifer Fritcher (Martin Dunavin) of Wilsonville, OR, and Robin Barrett (Greg Odean) of Lincoln; grandchildren, Caydance, Tristin and Austin Roybal; his sisters, Patty Hongsermeier of North Platte and Connie Rookstool of Grand Island; a special cousin Mikie Barrett; many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Rocky was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Ted Rookstool and Rodney Hongsermeier; his special buddy, Bradlee Boslau (by only 3 hours); and many aunts, uncles and Elvis Presley.

Celebration of Rocky's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Odean Colonial Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are to the family for help with funeral expenses.
