North Platte, NE — Community Connections Mentoring invites the public to join in spreading holiday cheer and appreciation to deployed military members at the annual Operation Christmas Card event, held Monday, November 3rd from 5–7 p.m. at the North Platte Senior Center.
In partnership with RSVP, NP High School Key Club, and the local Operation Christmas Card group founded by Char Swalberg, this heartfelt community tradition has been uniting volunteers since 2017 to write cards and prepare care packages for service members stationed overseas.
The event is open to everyone—families, individuals, and groups—who wish to write a card, donate items for care packages, or simply learn more about local volunteer opportunities. Domino’s Pizza will generously provide pizza for all participants.
Donations for care packages can be dropped off in advance at:
- North Platte Senior Center, 901 East 10 Street
- Community Connections Mentoring Offices at NebraskaLand Bank Downtown, 121 N. Dewey St.
Requested donation items include:
- Baby wipes
- Hygiene products (no bar soap)
- Individual tuna packets
- Individual powdered drink mixes
- Peanut butter
- All kinds of jerky
Operation Christmas Card is also accepting monetary donations to help cover the cost of shipping care packages overseas.
Since its founding, Operation Christmas Card, Inc. has reached over 10,000 deployed troops with messages of love and gratitude from home.
“It means so much to see local organizations and volunteers come together each year to support our mission,” said Char Swalberg, founder of Operation Christmas Card. “Every card, every care package, and every donation helps remind our troops that their sacrifices are appreciated and they are never forgotten.”
Attendees will also have the chance to learn more about Community Connections Mentoring, the RSVP volunteer program, and Operation Christmas Card. This event is open to all ages.
