A Gothenburg police officer and her husband are dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
The Gothenburg Leader reports that the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the home of Jeff and Jill McCandless at around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Troopers discovered the bodies of the couple inside the home, and a preliminary investigation shows that Jeff shot and killed Jill before turning the gun on himself.
The Leader reports that McCandless had been with the Gothenburg Police Department since 2010 and was only the third female officer to serve on the force.
The investigation is ongoing and we are working to gather more details.
