LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska state administrator who oversees public services for children and families is leaving his job next month.

Matt Wallen is stepping down as director of Nebraska's Children and Family Services Division, which is a part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Gov. Pete Ricketts announced the departure Friday and praised Wallen for providing more customer-focused and efficient services.

Wallen joined the department as chief of staff in 2015 and was appointed as the division's director in August 2017. He is leaving to join a Nebraska nonprofit group, but says the division's employees are the best he's ever worked with in more than 20 years of public service.

Ricketts says he has already started a search for a new agency director.
