NPPSF News Release

Turn over the couch cushions and watch your piggy banks. Students in the North Platte Public Schools are leaving no stone unturned as they participate in the third annual “Change Wars” sponsored by the North Platte Public Schools Foundation.

All 9 Elementary Schools, Madison and Adams Middle School are participating in this two-week challenge to raise money for their schools and the North Platte Public Schools Foundation’s REACH Grants for Teachers.

Each classroom is challenged to bring as much change as they can in the two weeks, with a $250 classroom fund up for grabs for the top classroom in the district. The school that brings in the most change will receive a $500 discretionary fund and a chance to proclaim themselves the change wars champion. Last year NPPS students brought in just over $12,000.

Each school will receive ½ of the dollar amount that they raised as well as a matching donation from a local sponsor. Over 70% of the money that the students bring in stays at their respective school. The rest of the money from the change wars will be distributed to the North Platte Public School Foundations REACH grant program which funds innovative projects for teachers that fall outside the classroom budget.

Students will then celebrate their participating at elementary night on October 4th before the Bulldog vs Lincoln Football game. Little Bulldog tickets will be given to the students and they can enter the game free of charge with a paid adult. Elementary schools will be recognized before the game as they do a victory march around the track at 6:40.

That same evening is the 11th Annual Bulldog Backyard BBQ from 5:00 to 7:00. Plan to come eat before the game as 21 teams participate in this year’s event. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10 Adult $5.00 Student.
