
Darrell Sukraw, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at Maple Crest Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska on November 8, 2020.
Darrell was born in Gothenburg, Nebraska on July 9, 1940 to Marvin Adrian and Reva Francis (Post) Sukraw. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1959 then went to Kearney State College and Later McCook Junior College before enlisting in the military, proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966. In 1967, he received his Associate of Arts Degree from North Platte Junior college.
On August 12, 1962, Darrell married Linda Sue Shearer at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte and the couple eventually settled north of town where he had cattle.
Darrell was a hard worker. He worked for the Haythorn Ranch during high school, then for the Union Pacific Railroad during college, driving back and forth on the weekends. After his military service, Darrell went back to the Union Pacific Railroad, working as a Conductor until retiring in 2002. He also spent several years working with his father, Marvin, and the two owned and piloted a JC3 Piper Cub.
Darrell loved to travel with his family, watch documentaries and read every issue of the National Geographic magazine. He learned how to fence with French epees while in the service. He enjoyed hunting and caring for his cattle and horses. He often played chess and Pinocle and was an excellent marksman and mechanic. As he grew older, Darrel enjoyed teaching others the skills he learned. He had a deep faith in God and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion. He also volunteered his time for the Lincoln County Historical Museum.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Linda, and son, Erik Sukraw, of Omaha; daughter, Beth (Ron) Bohl, of Phillipsburg, Kansas; grandchildren, Zach (Jessica) Sukraw of Webster City, Iowa, Nick Sukraw of Omaha, LaKota Bohl of Holton, Kansas and Micah (Luke) Morrow of Bellingham, Washington; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Emersyn Sukraw; sister, Marvilyn (Roger) Jones of Fortville, Indiana; niece, Kathlene Jones; nephew, Matt (Michelle) Jones; great-nephew, Kevin Jones; and other family.
Darrell was preceded in death by his infant son, Kiev; his parents, Marvin & Reva Sukraw; and favored uncle, Frank Sukraw.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family suggests a donation to the Salvation Army or charity of choice.
