Joan Beckman Sommer, 87, formerly of Lexington, passed away on July 3, 2024, at Country House in Kearney, Nebraska.

She was born in rural Gosper County to Wesley and Dora (Stubbendieck) Stine. Joan attended Bertrand High School and graduated with the class of 1954.

Joan was united in marriage to Donald Beckman on April 24, 1955, at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield, Nebraska. To this union they welcomed four daughters: Dorinda "Rindy", Diane, Dona, and Deanna "Dee Dee". The couple made their home in Lexington where Joan worked at the Lexington Public Library, Reach Electronics, Home Federal Bank, and for Paul Matson at Sun America.

Joan was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Along with being active in the church, she was a member of Mrs. Jaycees and the Extension Club. Joan's many hobbies included traveling, taking care of her flowers, reading, watching birds, and spending time with her family.

Following Don's passing, Joan traveled, and on her travels she met Delbert Sommer and later the couple married and made their home in Maxwell, Nebraska. After Delbert's passing, Joan moved to Kearney, Nebraska to be closer to her family.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Rindy (Jeff) Zink, Diane (Terry) Wohlers, and Dona (John) McCarter; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren with another on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Burkhead, Judy (Drew) Pierson, and Shari Beyer; brother-in-law, Dennis (Joan) Beckman and sister-in-law, Donna Sundstrom; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Dora Stine, husbands, Donald Beckman and Delbert Sommer, and daughter Deanna Beckman.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington, with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
