LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Two inmates who assaulted a prison captain at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln have been given more time behind bars.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that 24-year-old Ary Soto was sentenced Monday and 29-year-old Evan Swenson was sentenced last week.

Prosecutors say the two inmates were armed Oct. 5, 2016, with padlocks attached to cotton belts that they could swing as weapons. They came up behind some investigators and then focused on the captain, battering his head and hands. He suffered a concussion, cuts and a fractured hand.

Court records say Soto pleaded no contest and was given 10 to 16 years. He’s already serving time for second-degree murder in Douglas County. The records say Swenson also pleaded no contest and was given eight to 16 years. He’s serving time for attempted murder in Buffalo County.
