Royals news: Ex Royal receives biggest contract in Reds history, new manager keeps staff

Moustakas makes bank:

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds have completed a $64 million, four-year deal with former second baseman Mike Moustakas, the biggest free agent contract in Reds history. The 31-year-old infielder will plug the Reds' hole at second base, which opened when Scooter Gennett (jeh-NEHT') got hurt and then was traded at midseason. The Reds are trying to upgrade an offense that was among the National League's worst at scoring runs last season. They have become active in free agency the last two years, trying to escape a rut of six straight losing seasons. They signed Moustakas from the NL Central-rival Brewers.

Matheny not rocking the boat:

Royals manager Mike Matheny has announced his first coaching staff in Kansas City and most of the names are familiar. Hitting coach Terry Bradshaw and pitching coach Cal Eldred will return from Ned Yost's staff in the same roles. Pedro Grifol will move from working with catchers to bench coach, Rusty Kuntz will move back to first base and Vance Wilson will shift to third base. Larry Carter is joining the big league club after working with Royals minor league players, and John Mabry and Rafael Belliard are the newcomers to the organization.
