Donald LeRoy Parrish, age 92, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at his home on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Don was born on June 5, 1927 at Woodruff, Kansas to Clifford and Beulah Verneta (Stephenson) Parrish and grew up in Norcatur, Kansas. When he was a junior in high school, the family moved to North Platte, Nebraska. Don graduated from North Platte High School in 1945, then joined the U.S. Army a few months later.
Following his discharge in 1947, Don returned to North Platte where he was united in marriage to Doris Darlene Miller on December 17, 1947 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Don worked for J.C. Penney for several years and at different store locations. In 1961, he went to work for J.M. McDonald's in York, Nebraska. this job took the family to Carlsbad, New Mexico then Riverton, Wyoming. While in Wyoming he became manager of the Riverton Chamber of Commerce.
Doris and Don moved back to North Platte in 1976, then to Ogallala, Nebraska five years later when they bought the Ogallala Nursery. They returned again to North Platte in 1993 and retired.
Don was a proud veteran and member of the American Legion for 72 years. He was also a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and while in Riverton, Wyoming he was active with Kiwanis and the Sheriff's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris, of North Platte; their children, Lynn Parrish of Overland Park, Kansas, Cindy (Clay) Trover of Albany, Georgia, and Dorene (Scott) McIntyre of Cheyenne, Wyoming; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; as well as other family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Beulah; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Parrish.
Graveside Funeral Services with Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.
