Robert Eugene Winchell (1921-2019)

Robert Eugene Winchell age 98 died December 21st, 2019 in North Platt, NE.

Bob was born December 13, 1921 In Goodland, Kansas, the son of Daniel and Martha (Erickson) Winchell.

He married Barbara Harding in Sidney, Nebraska on January 24th, 1943. They were married 73 years before Barb’s passing in 2015. They brought into this world four children; Linda, Dan, John, and Dean.

Bob served his country in the South Pacific in WWII aboard the USS Wachapreague.  After returning from the war he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad in 1946, following job openings on the railroad eastward from Julesburg, Colorado before finally settling in North Platte.  Bob Retired in 1982.  After retirement, he spent his time enjoying the many friends and grandkids that have been so much a part of their lives.

He is survived by sons Dan (Linda) of North Platte, John (Gayle) of North Platte, Dean (Tina) of Harvard, Ne; brother-in-law Marvin Harding of Houston, sisters-in-law Carma Ehalt of Arizona, Rose Harding of Burns, Wyoming, and  Roberta Harding of Thousand Palms, California; 15 Grandchildren, 17 Great grandchildren and 5 Great-Great- Grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.

 Bob was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Linda Fairchild.

Although a long life results in many acquaintances, perhaps not as many true friends.

Many special memories of his friend Chris Linn, the extraordinary kindness of his caregiver, Sara Zogg, and of Chuck Matthews a friend who never forgot his service to his country.

Services will be 11am Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Douglas Delp presiding.  Private family inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Cremation was chosen. The memorial book may be signed from 9am to 5pm Friday, December 27, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel which is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald “Jerry” W. Piontkowski (1961-2019)

Gerald “Jerry” W. Piontkowski, 58, of North Platte, passed away December 19, 2019 at Great Plains Health.  He was born on June 22, 1961 to Richard and Catherine (Still) Piontkowski.

Jerry graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1979.  After graduation he travelled all over the country working various jobs.  He ended up settling in Ogallala and married Mary Dale on June 29, 1993.  To this union, three daughters were born, Sandra, Samantha, and Catherine.

The Family lived in North Platte where Jerry worked at Best Linen (now known as Ideal Linen), North Platte Rec Center, Telegraph, Kwik Stop in Ogallala and North Platte, and Cabelas.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.  Family was the center of his life; he adored his children and especially his grandchildren.  He loved fishing and camping and feeding the squirrels and birds.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra Owens, Samantha (fiancé Randy Cassilas Jr.) Piontkowski, and Catherine Piontkowski all of North Platte; grandchildren Destiny Piontkowski, Nevaeh Piontkowski, Damien Piontkowski, Noah McEntire, Aubrei Piontkowski and Hellana Ruiz; brothers Fr. Richard Piontkowski Jr. of Ravenna, NE, and Thomas Piontkowski of Aurora, NE, sister Carol Hagemann of Waterloo, NE; numerous other family members and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Catherine Lynn Kwiatkowski; and best friends Jim Grabowski and Darin Crosier.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M., December 28, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Richard Piontkowski officiating.  Those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00-5:00, December 27, 2019 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
