Gale Callison Allen was born February 25, 1935 to Jack Albert and Dorothy Leona (Lyle) Allen on the family farm south of Cambridge, Nebraska. He attended grade school at three country schools around Cambridge. Gale attended high school in Cambridge, Edison, and Beaver City, where he graduated in 1952. He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in January of 1959.
Gale was united in marriage to Janice Ruth McQuiety on August 16, 1959. To this union a daughter, Janice Elaine and a son, Anthony Gale were born. Gale worked at Robertson’s Chevrolet in Oxford for thirteen years until it closed. He was a mechanic for Robertson’s stockcar number 45. He worked at Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege for thirteen years and was a substitute rural mail carrier while at B-D. Gale became a full-time rural mail carrier in 1985 and retired on February 25, 2000.
Gale was a member of the Methodist Church in Beaver City and transferred to the Oxford United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and had been a Jaycee. Gale served on the volunteer fire department and was an EMT.
Gale liked to travel; he and Janice visited all fifty states and enjoyed cruising on ships with Tony and Jan and Dale. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing with the 1:00 PM group on weekdays. Late on Sunday afternoons, he would take Janice for a ride in the country to look for wildlife.
Gale passed away at the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, Nebraska on Friday, October 13, 2023. He was 88 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Jimmy Carroll, Gerald Patrick, Robert Jack and wife, Georgia Mae, and Donald Albert and wife, Shirley Ann.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; children, Janice “Jan” Cramer and husband, Dale Glen Cramer of Cambridge and Anthony “Tony” Allen of Oxford; grandsons, Jeremiah Quincy Wehland and Rachel Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona, Ryan Anthony Cramer of Cambridge, and Drew Richard Cramer and wife, Kimberly LiAnne of Cambridge; as well as his great-grandchildren, Irmina Zophia Cramer, Mason Allen, Elisabeth Jean, and Emmett Ward Cramer all of Cambridge.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 17, 2023 from 3-6PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, Nebraska.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11AM, Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023 at the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Albert Longe officiating. Graveside services will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge, Nebraska at 2:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2023 with full military honors.
