Harold D. Parsons (1938 - 2020

Harold D. Parson, age 81, of Gothenburg, Nebraska died on January 1, 2020 in Gothenburg.  He was born on January 26, 1938 in Cozad, Nebraska, the son of Herbert and Freda (Buss) Parsons.

Harold grew up in the Cozad & Willow Island areas of Nebraska.  He attended rural schools at Cozad.  On February 6, 1956 he married Lorene Tunison at Lexington, Nebraska and to this union four children were born, Patsy, Peggy, Chris and Cheryl.  In March of 1956 he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in California, Hong Kong, Hawaii and Japan.  After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the Cozad area.  The family lived in Maxwell, Gothenburg and Cozad in Nebraska.  He lived in Cozad and made that his home until his last few years when he moved to Gothenburg,  Nebraska.  Harold spent many years working at the hay mill, co-op, and Monroe's in Cozad.  He enjoyed making things with his hands, welding and spending time with horses.  His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished time with them.  Harold was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Cozad.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene M. Parsons of Gothenburg, Nebraska; four daughters, Patsy (Kenneth) Barta Nichols of Cozad, Nebraska, Peggy (and the late Warren) Rice of Kearney, Nebraska, Chris (Jerry) Sabin of North Platte, Nebraska, and Cheryl (Troy) Oelkers of Cozad, Nebraska; three brothers, Larry (Connie) Parsons of Great Bend, Kansas, Gene (Shirley) Parsons of Cozad, Nebraska, and Dick Parsons of Gothenburg, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Bob Parrett, Frank (Pat) Tunison, and Russell (Danielle) Tunison, all of Cozad; many nieces and nephews, along with other extended family members and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille Parrett and Sharon Carpenter Weeder; six brothers, Melvin Parsons, Don Parsons, Dwayne Parsons, Kenneth Parsons, Ronald Parsons, and Raymond Parsons; two sons-in-law, Edward Barta, Jr., husband of Patsy, and Warren Rice, husband of Peggy; sister-in-law, Violet Hayes; in-laws, Sylvester & Mable Tunison; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Tunison.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth Street in Gothenburg, Nebraska on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, January 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.
